The Traffic Tickets Digital Service (TTDS) is the fastest and most convenient way to respond to a ticket. Through the TTDS, you can:

• pay a ticket
• request time to pay
• plead not guilty
• request a trial date
• request a review by a prosecutor

To make a payment, you will need the following:

• ticket number
• valid credit or debit card (VISA Credit, VISA Debit, MasterCard, American Express, Interac Online)
• email address to receive your receipt
• current web browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer 9 or higher)

If you were issued a Time to Pay Notice, or if you received a Notice of Conviction, you can also pay your notice on MyAlberta eService.

‘Ticket Not Found’ message

If a ‘Ticket Not Found’ message appears when you enter your ticket number in the TTDS or on MyAlberta eService, your payment options depend on the age of your ticket.

Recent ticket

The ticket hasn’t been entered into the online ticket payment system, yet. In this case, you can:

• pay the ticket online at a later date – up to and including the respond by or appearance date on the ticket
• pay the ticket at a registry office (Offence Notice tickets only)
• mail your ticket and payment

Older ticket

If your ticket was issued more than 2 years ago, you can either:

• pay the ticket at a registry office
• mail your ticket and payment

Other ways to pay

Mail

Any ticket or fine you can pay online can also be paid through the mail. Refer to your ticket for instructions on how to pay by mail.

Your payment must be by cheque or money order made out to the Government of Alberta. Write your ticket number on the back.

Your payment must be received on or before the ticket due date to ensure you will not be charged a late fee.

Registry offices

Offence Notice tickets can be paid at any registry office. Service fees apply.

Responding to your ticket if you are not paying

Use the TTDS, mail, email or phone to contact the court to:

• request time to pay
• enter a not guilty plea
• take any other action with respect to your ticket

The email address of the court that is handling your ticket will be printed on the ticket. If not, you can find court email addresses on the Court of Justice website. All court locations can be reached by phone, toll free in Alberta, by calling 310-0000.

Do not attend the courthouse on the appearance date or “respond by" date on the ticket unless you either:

• intend to plead guilty to a mandatory court ticket
• are not able to respond in any other way

Overdue tickets

If you do not pay or otherwise deal with your ticket by the due date, either:

• you will be charged a late fee in addition to the fine – for Offence Notice tickets
• a warrant may be issued for your arrest – for Summons tickets

Enforcement

All overdue fines and late fees must be paid in full before a registry agent will provide you with vehicle-related services. If you pay your fine and late fee online, you can get these services from a registry agent later that day by showing them your payment receipt.

Overdue fines and late fees will eventually be transferred to the Fines Enforcement Program for collection.

Fine option program for non-traffic tickets

The Crown may offer this program to you if:

• you are an adult
• you are a first or second-time offender
• you admit you are guilty and you want to take part
• not paying your fine means you go to jail

If you are approved for this program:

• you can do community work for minimum wage until your fine is paid off

Cost of fines

Monetary penalties associated with driving violations can be viewed in Parts 31-33 of the Procedures Regulation (AR 63/2017) of the Provincial Offences Procedures Act.

Note the amounts listed do not include the victim surcharge, where applicable.
